DEBORA WARNER

Flutter remix , 2001

"Remixology doesn't replace a track so much as
proliferate it into parallel alterdimensions.
"
-Kodwo Eshun

Originally presented outdoors on a rooftop,
FLUTTER was constructed from two overlapping
sequences of helicopters in flight.
The interaction between the two helicopters
was deliberate and climactic.
FLUTTER REMIX is a singular effect from the
original composition reduced to an austere minute
and forty seconds. Similar to the way scratch artists
isolate a breakbeat, we have isolated the sound of a
fly-by. The resulting "sequel" is a portable extraction
from the unique piece. Installed indoors, it periodically
(every ten minutes) produces a blanket of noise
over the existing cacophony in the room.
