Heidi Bucher | Time Out New York | Time Out New York

Mar 04 2014

Born in Switzerland, Bucher (1926–1993) moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s, where she became friends with artist Edward Kienholz. She was included in a 1972 exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum, in which she showed a series of wearable sculptures created in tandem with her husband. A few years later, she returned to Switzerland, where she began to make a series of latex castings of architectural interiors and details, anticipating the work of British artist Rachel Whiteread. The Swiss Institute takes a look back at Bucher’s work, in her first American show in more than 40 years.
