Conversation | Shahryar Nashat, Bruce Hainley and Hilary Lloyd on Giovanni Battista Moroni’s Il Cavaliere in Rosa Swiss Institute

This event will be held in the back room of the Ukranian East Village Restaurant (140 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10003) and capacity is limited. RSVPs are essential and will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

On the occasion of his exhibition at Swiss Institute, Shahryar Nashat will be joined by writer Bruce Hainley and artist Hilary Lloyd in a conversation centering upon a single painting: Giovanni Battista Moroni’s 1560 portrait of Giovanni Gerolamo Grumelli, called Il Cavaliere in Rosa (The Man in Pink). The painting is currently on view in Moroni: The Riches of Renaissance Portraiture at the Frick Collection. Attendees are encouraged to view the painting in person prior to the program. Tea will be served.

Shahryar Nashat (b. 1975 in Geneva, Switzerland) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Bruce Hainley is the author of Under the Sign of [sic]: Sturtevant’s Volte-Face and Art & Culture, both published by Semiotext(e). A contributing editor of Artforum and co-chair of Graduate Art at ArtCenter College of Design, he recently edited Gary Indiana’s Vile Days: The Village Voice Art Columns, 1985-1988.

Hilary Lloyd lives and works in London. Recent solo exhibitions include Blaffer Art Museum, Houston, TX (2016); Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel, Switzerland (2012); Artists Space, New York (2011); Le Consortium, Dijon, France (2009); and Kunstverein München, Munich, Germany (2006). Her work is in the collections of Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel, Switzerland; Tate Collection, London; Sammlung Goetz, Munich, Germany; and Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich, Germany.
